Weird Florida
Presented by author and journalist Eliot Kleinberg

Native Floridian (and Boca resident) Eliot Kleinberg
has spent nearly four decades as a reporter, including more than 30 years at The Palm Beach Post in West Palm Beach. Eliot is known for his local history columns “Post Time,” which ran for two decades, and “Florida Time,” which appeared in newspapers state-wide. He is the author of ten books on local history; his most recent book, Peace River, is a historical novel which takes place at the end of the Civil War. Eliot will present some of the wonderful but wacky true tales from his books Weird Florida and Weird Florida II.

Chief Wood has been serving on the City of Boca Raton Fire Rescue Services Department for 47 years.  Tom started as a Firefighter in 1974 and has worked his way up through the ranks.  He served as the City Fire Marshal between 1988 and 1996.  He was appointed as the Department’s 6th career Fire Chief on August 21, 2006. Chief Wood will be discussing the terrifying events of October, 2001, when the America Media Inc. building on Boca Raton, home of the National Enquirer, was one of several sites to receive anthrax laden correspondence.

A 46-year resident of Boca Raton, he has been at the forefront of innovation from the original IBM PC to Robotics, the Internet, Global Business Consulting, and Project Checkmate. Resilient Florida:  Archaeology and Adaptation at the Beach
Presented by Sara Ayers-Rigsby, Director, Southeast/ Southwest Region, Florida Public Archaeology Network
March 3, 2022

Sara Ayers-Rigsby specializes in cultural resources management and historic preservation. Prior to beginning her role as Southeast/Southwest Regional Director, she spent 10 years working as an archaeologist throughout the United States, with a regional focus on the archaeology of the southeast and Mid Atlantic. Her research interests include public outreach and archaeology, archaeological compliance legislation, and industrial archaeology in Florida. Sara will be sharing information on the lifestyles of the pre-Columbian people who once inhabited South Florida.
 

Community Presentations 

Presentations on the history of Boca Raton are available to groups, organizations, and businesses for a fee. The history talks include historic photographs from the BRHS archives. History Tours


The Boca Raton Historical Society offers history tours to the community's residents and its visitors alike. These Heritage Educational  Tours are conducted by the Boca Raton Historical Society volunteers. The various tours include the Boca Raton, Boca Raton, and The Schmidt Boca Raton History Museum.
